City growth record

WyndhamWYNDHAM City is continuing its record-breaking streak, with October 2010 dwelling approvals being the highest October ever.

The City issued 530 new dwelling permits last month including 65 units.
The statistics show a continued pattern in recent months of approximately 500 new dwelling approvals each month in Wyndham.

Iramoo Ward councillor John Menegazzo said it is now virtually certain that the yearly total for 2010 will exceed 5000.

This would be the very first time any Victorian municipality has seen 5000 dwelling approvals in a year.

“The recent rises in the interest rate by the Reserve Bank and the commercial banks may have a dampening effect on the numbers of building permits that are issued in coming months but these factors haven’t slowed dwelling numbers for the month of October,” Cr Menegazzo said.

“The City has identified the first home buyer’s grant, the close proximity to the CBD, immigration rates, and the continuing shift in Melbourne’s growth to the North and West as contributing factors to the rise in dwelling approvals.

“Wyndham City will continue to work closely with all levels of Government to make certain that the growth of our City is managed strategically.”
